Donald Trump just accused Barack Obama of being the „founder of ISIS“ while calling Hillary Clinton its „co-founder.“ Although he did not go into detail, his remarks once again highlight the need to revisit the US‘ role in the region in general and the rise of the „Islamic State“ in particular. Unfortunately, Trump’s remarks are not completely off the mark.

Ein Sommer wie niemals
August 2016, ein Sommer, der irgendwie keiner war, geht langsam zu Ende. Ein handelsüblicher Wiener Sommer. Im Lichte des Wetters vergangener Tage kein Vergleich zu 2015. Der war – wie das mit dem Blick durch die retrosarote (ich beanspruche übrigens die Urheberschaft auf dieses Wort, per Google habe ich es nicht gefunden; gemeint ist damit die Farbe mit der sich die verklärt-positive Vergangenheit im Nachhinein präsentiert) Brille nun einmal so ist – besser.
Der Schmied/Schmiedl-Mythos
„Kern & Co. drängen immer weiter nach rechts. Regierung lässt FPÖ wenig Luft“ titelte die Krone am Sonntag. Was so einige reflexartig mit der guten alten „wer geht schon zum Schmiedl, wenn er den Schmied haben kann“-Binsenweisheit quittieren. Im Falle der FPÖ trifft sie jedoch weithin nicht zu.
