August 2016, ein Sommer, der irgendwie keiner war, geht langsam zu Ende. Ein handelsüblicher Wiener Sommer. Im Lichte des Wetters vergangener Tage kein Vergleich zu 2015. Der war – wie das mit dem Blick durch die retrosarote (ich beanspruche übrigens die Urheberschaft auf dieses Wort, per Google habe ich es nicht gefunden; gemeint ist damit die Farbe mit der sich die verklärt-positive Vergangenheit im Nachhinein präsentiert) Brille nun einmal so ist – besser.

Der Schmied/Schmiedl-Mythos
„Kern & Co. drängen immer weiter nach rechts. Regierung lässt FPÖ wenig Luft“ titelte die Krone am Sonntag. Was so einige reflexartig mit der guten alten „wer geht schon zum Schmiedl, wenn er den Schmied haben kann“-Binsenweisheit quittieren. Im Falle der FPÖ trifft sie jedoch weithin nicht zu.

More than a quarter-century has passed since Francis Fukuyama famously postulated the end of history; however, given the constant decline of democracy in recent years, one has to wonder whether we have finally entered a new era: the End of Democracy.
